Mobile Solutions Introduces Oscar, an Innovative Work Surface

TEMPE, AZ, (06.03.2021) – Mobile Solutions announces the release of its newest innovation – OSCAR. This patented, innovative work surface is engineered to be used for cutting, sanding and other fabrication-related tasks while minimizing cleanup and airborne dust. Made from CNC-machined MDF, it’s engineered to fit atop standard 33 gallon garbage cans and is low cost enough to be sacrificial so messy cutting and body work tasks need not ruin laminated or other finished shop work surfaces. It also has precisely positioned holes to create a downdraft vacuum in the open, ducted middle layer and maximize airborne dust collection when paired with the optional cyclone vacuum system or directly with a common shop vac.

“We worked on this design for a long time and optimized it to be a useful part of an efficient fabrication shop, whether a professional shop or in a DIY garage,” stated Mobile Solutions founder and CEO Bryan Schmitt. OSCAR saves space because it fits atop the common shop garbage can, as well as doubling as multiple work surfaces. It can be used for sanding, rough cutting with a jigsaw or any number of other, somewhat messy fabrication tasks.

“Since OSCAR is intended to be sacrificial, you need not feel bad about cuts, paint overspray or other things that would ruin a typical, more permanent work surface. You simply replace OSCAR with another one when it’s time,” added Schmitt. Mobile Solutions will also offer an OSCAR top replacement so that just the top surface can be replaced even more affordably.

How did OSCAR get its name? Schmitt says they’ve used this work surface in a more basic form since the company’s inception and very first training classes in 2004. He came up with the name to ensure his attendees would remember how important it was, so it needed to make an impression. Ultimately OSCAR was chosen because of the Sesame Street character of the same name who, you guessed it, was always in the garbage can. It’s been a staple at Mobile Solutions training sessions ever since. Now it’s just much more engineered in the sense it is thicker (more stable) and has the intricate dust collection capability to make it the ultimate shop garbage can topper. OSCAR pairs with an optional cyclone vacuum system that is based atop a standard five gallon bucket for dust particle collection and uses suction provided by a standard shop vac. The cyclone reduces 99% of the particles normally pulled into the shop vac and extends its life, as well as making the suction on the OSCAR work surface more efficient. Mobile Solutions Introduces Smart Router Table System

TEMPE, AZ (03.08.2021) – Mobile Solutions announces the new Smart Router Table (SRT) system. It’s an industrial-grade router table with custom manufactured, welded and powder coated steel and has configurations that will suit any automotive audio or interior fabrication shop, from hardcore hobbyist to high-volume production operations. “It’s such an efficient way to add the production efficiency of a multi-bank router table without having to build it from the raw materials yourself. Schmitt and his team at Mobile Solutions designed and engineered the Smart Router Table (SRT) system to ensure that fabrication work has no barriers to efficiency, safety or quality. It is available in two or three bank configurations. The 1.25” high pressure laminated table top is balanced to ensure a level, safe surface on which to router even the most complex parts. Balancing a top involves lamination on both sides so the work surface doesn’t lose its true flat geometry. For the optional router lifts, the work surface has CNC-machined openings for a precision fit. 1/16” steel router inserts are also included, which ensure the leveling screws on the router lift remain accurate over time, a very import feature so the work surface and router plate surface are always flush and safe.

The thick-wall, welded steel frame construction with adjustable 2” leveling feet means a sturdy footing while routers are spinning and parts cut or contoured on the router. The gloss clear powder coat finish of the frame is as good looking as it is functional and protective. Mobile Solutions Introduces Magnet Fitment System

TEMPE, AZ (02.03.2021) – Mobile Solutions announces its latest product release: the Magnet Fitment System. It’s a complete, solution-driven kit that aids fabricators in the use and installation of round neodymium magnets in place of traditional door or trim panel clips. “It’s the only kit of its kind” says company founder and president, Bryan Schmitt. He says that using this kit virtually eliminates difficulties commonly experienced when implementing these small, powerful magnets into custom interior and audio system builds.

“The problem when using neodymium magnets for panel attachments is common size drill bits are not precision-sized for a secure press fit and leave an angled bottom of the drilled hole” explains Schmitt. This means the mounting hole (also called the “pocket hole”) ends up larger than round magnet’s outer diameter and without a flat countersink at the bottom of the hole. “A precision, tight fit is critical because of the force of attraction between these magnets” continues Schmitt. In addition, because magnets require a specific polarity orientation to attract to one another (rather than oppose), positioning the magnets with a backward polarity orientation is a common mistake. The Mobile Solutions Magnet Fitment System solves all these problems with a solution-driven approach.

Custom CNC-machined Magnet Match countersink bits that are precision-sized for a secure press fit of MS neodymium magnets. Mobile Solutions’ “Up Front Fab” Training Packs Zoom Meeting

TEMPE, AZ (12.29.2020) – On Friday December 18, 2020, Mobile Solutions’ founder and CEO Bryan Schmitt along with Sage Weir from Sounds Good Stereo, TN and Tom Miller of Musicar Northwest, OR presented a collaborative, web-based training for ORCA Design and Manufacturing called UP FRONT FAB. The fabrication-themed training was open to all who pre-registered. It turned out to be an incredible success with over 330 attendees from at least eight countries including USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, Holland, South Africa and Australia.

“What was originally scheduled for 90 minutes went for about two hours, with plenty of interest from attendees to continue. There was enough content to schedule a complete second session with the topics we had.” explains Bryan Schmitt. The training session focused on speaker placement for premium sound quality builds, including addressing creation of speaker locations and finishing techniques required for custom A-pillars, dash grilles and tweeter pods. Schmitt did live, on-camera routering of a template shape and the actual plastic of an A-pillar to demonstrate how the techniques and steps actually progress. “So many engaged attendees and great questions along the way. This is the kind of audience you want to have” added Schmitt.

Weir and Miller also shared their own approaches with their clientele as to how they come up with designs and techniques to build great-sounding, front stage-focused car audio systems. Weir talked about some recent vehicle installs where they implement a process for A-pillars that reduces the fabrication time and yields stellar results, thus helping to allocate budgets to higher-end component speakers. Miller also talked about his recent installs, as well as his tools and process of doing renderings to draw concepts before ever cutting any materials or starting the customization work. Altogether, a packed session with highly relevant topics to the attending audience. “Registrations topped 500, suggesting there is an appetite for this training format to continue” said Nalaka Adakari, Sales Director at ORCA Design. Mobile Solutions Releases New Pt-9a+ Polarity Tester

TEMPE, AZ (08.06.2020) – Mobile Solutions announces the release of a new and exciting audio system test tool: the PT-9A+ Polarity Tester. It’s is an essential measurement tool for building and tuning great car audio systems. Advancing on the previous and highly successful PT-9A model, the new PT-9A+ adds even more capabilities to analyze signals, particularly in OEM audio system integration.

“In any car audio system, it’s critical to identify and verify the correct polarity of speakers, both before and after installation. The polarity of the electrical signals that connect to the speakers in OEM audio integration, as well as correctly identifying which wires correspond to which speaker locations, is also critical to verify” comments Bryan Schmitt, President of Mobile Solutions. The PT-9A+ does all of those tasks in one compact, easy-to-use tool.

The PT-9A+ has a safe, low voltage output pulse on either the preamp level (RCA) plug or speaker jacks. It generates polarity pulses directly into a speaker or AUX input, or the technician can use pulse tracks from the included USB thumb drive and load them on a portable media device. The built-in microphone on the front of the tool then determines if the speaker cone moves outward with the pulse (correct polarity) or inward (reversed polarity). The low voltage of the pulse means no damage to CAN Bus wires, Air Bag wires or other sensitive circuits if the technician mistakes other vehicle wiring for audio signal or speaker wiring. In the past, technicians would sometimes try to ‘pop’ speakers with power tool batteries or tape wires to a 9V or D cell battery for this task. The PT-9A+ is a much safer and professional way to pulse speakers and determine absolute acoustic polarity.

The game-changing new feature of the PT-9A+ is that the speaker jacks not only function as outputs for generating output pulses, but the jacks can be configured to accept speaker-level INPUT up to 4VAC to identify the electrical polarity of an audio signal. This feature essentially tells the technician which wire is positive (+) and negative (-) so that, when doing an OEM audio integration job, the inputs to a DSP or amplifier can be configured correctly with respect to polarity. Cancellation between audio signals (acoustic or electrical) is the number one problem that plagues most car audio systems which exhibit poor sound performance. “When all of the audio system’s signals and speakers are correct in polarity, only then can the technician do effective tuning for optimum sound quality” adds Schmitt.

The super-light, 1/4 inch expanded PVC plastic fitment gauges are silkscreened with the exact dimensional profile of a specific subwoofer, including its specifications such as power handling, multiple diameter measurements and mounting depth details. Mobile Solutions Webinar Explores the Future

TEMPE, AZ (04.22.2020) – Mobile Solutions delivered a live webinar on April 15 aimed toward retailers thinking about the new normal of what business looks like on the other side of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 300 people attended the live stream. Since then the recorded version has had over 800 views, increasing by 45-50 per day.

During the one hour webinar, Bryan Schmitt discussed the importance of being ready to respond when business returns and doors open again. He underscored new methodologies that include sterilizing customer vehicles before and after work is performed Schmitt encouraged retailers to communicate this to clientele through in-store signage, social media outreach and email marketing campaigns.

“We have to proactively communicate to the consumer that, as an industry, we are committed to take extra measures to ensure the work we perform in vehicles is done with their safety in mind,” commented Schmitt. He feels that this will go a long way to making people comfortable enough to bring in their vehicles knowing that cleaning and protecting surfaces are a top priority.

“In the early days of car audio it was simple to be successful. Now, with all the competition and the diversity of the business (mobile electronics, not car stereo) you must be on your game and be ready to adapt,” remarked Dalesandro of End Result, who encouraged 12 volt retailers to attend.
